Thank you Gumpy (that's my dad and Alison's Gumpy). Mom and Dad came down over the weekend and dad started work in Alison's room!! The room has stood empty and ugly for almost a year with stripped walls and newly redone floors...so the floors looked great and everything else was awful.
Gump started to skim coat the walls and said that he would come down and paint when that was done...mom and dad live two hours away!
I'm starting to get excited about the room...I've left everything bare because I couldn't deal with a completed nursery...so now that we are starting, I can paint and decorate with some of the things that our secret buddy's have sent us for Alison as well as some things that I've purchased.
I'm going to the Unfinished Furniture Store in Raymond NH with mom in a couple of weeks. I want to get some solid bookcases that I can paint outside now that the weather is getting nicer and I'm going to look at some bedroom pieces for our room...it's a lot of work but I like that fact that it's solid wood and not just some kind of pressed board...and I can buy one piece at a time so that it won't break the bank.
Mom gave me some good idea's too for the baby's room. I'm planning on decorating more for a young girl...not necessarily a baby.
Alison's room has two large walk in closets...one is cedar for storage and the other is a large walk in with poles on both sides. I'm planning on putting the bureau in the closet between the two poles and mom suggested that I take the door off and make it more like an alcove instead of a closet. I'm liking that idea but I'm not sure if Michael will like it. Then I could put a bookcase/shelving on one side that will have baskets on the upper shelves for Alison's hats and other things and bookshelves below for all her books.
I also want to get some beanbag chairs so that when we read a story we can sack out on the beanbag chairs and those can go on the other side of the closet/alcove...the more I think about it the more I like it or we can always make room in there for either a toy box or a doll house. When she gets older we can put the door back on the closet if that is what she wants. If I store the door in the eves I wouldn't need to be concerned about moister like I would if we put it in the basement.
I think I'm going to have to play around a bit more with this idea but I'm liking it! Thanks Mom!
